Man held after diamonds allegedly found in underwear

A Namibian man is expected to appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court on Monday after he was caught with five uncut diamonds in his underwear at Cape Town International Airport.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut said the bust was made in an intelligence-driven operation conducted by the Cape Town Border Police on Friday night.

“The suspect was waiting in the international departure hall and was about to leave for the United Kingdom when he was arrested.

“The diamonds, of which the value is yet to be determined, were hidden in a small parcel concealed in the suspect’s underwear.”

A 37-year-old man was arrested for the incident.
