A Cape Town ghost squad member got more than he bargained for on Friday when a minibus taxi driver allegedly tried to attack him.

The traffic officer pulled the taxi over for causing an obstruction in Van Riebeeck Road in Kuils River, said traffic services spokesperson Maxine Jordaan.

"The taxi driver then pulled this 32cm screw driver out and attempted to attack the officer," she said.

Ten passengers looked on as the drama unfolded.

The officer managed to arrest the driver without injury.

A police docket for assault, possession of a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, and hindering and obstructing law enforcement was opened.
