Child-headed home flattened by Limpopo hailstorms

A child-headed household in Limpopo was razed to the ground by hailstorms which ravaged parts of the province over the past three days.

Authorities are still counting the cost of the wave of storms which resulted in scores of families being displaced.

Co-operative Governance spokesman Motupa Selomo as many as forty families in Fetakgomo Municipality were displaced and are in need of accommodation.

Six of these families were found to be in need of relief materials in the form of blankets and sponge mattresses.

“From the six households, two families were identified to be in need of emergency shelter in the form of low-cost housing,” he said.

Among the affected is a child-headed family whose house was razed by storm.

“The house accommodating children without parents was completely flattened and another which was occupied by an elderly man is no longer safe to live in.”
