Six tourists on their way to Mozambique were hijacked at gunpoint by five men near Emanguzi‚ Kosi Bay‚ police reported on Friday.

The six‚ from Mpumalanga‚ were driving their Fortune and Hi-Lux bakkies just south of the Mozambique-South Africa border and were accosted at about 6.30am on Thursday.

The victims were found about six hours later in the bushes in the Thengani area by residents who alerted the Emanguzi police.

The South African National Defence Force sealed off the border and an air search by Netstar and the police was launched “as the vehicles were believed to have been intended to be taken to Mozambique‚ said police spokesman Major Thulani Zwane.

The suspects were driving a dark-blue Polo with GP plates. They are still at large and anyone with information about their whereabouts is asked to contact any police station.
