A man accused of slicing off his live-in lover's genitals and licking the bloodied flesh yesterday told the Moretele Magistrate's Court he had been angered by her alleged infidelity.
The 33-year-old man is accused of trying to kill his 29-year-old girlfriend by stabbing her and cutting off her genitals last year. He is also facing a charge of sexual assault.
The mother of three is now wheelchair-bound as a result of injuries sustained during the attack.
The woman previously led shocking testimony to the effect that the accused held her vagina in his hand after slicing it off.
"He licked it and told me he had my nice thing in his hand. He then put it in his pocket," she said.
Yesterday the man testified that he attacked the woman after he heard rumours that she was cheating on him.
He also claimed the woman once left him for another man, and accused her of causing the death of their newborn baby in February last year. The man said his lover had a home birth last year and that he saw the baby.
"When I arrived home she had already bathed and fed the baby. There was nothing wrong with the child; the baby appeared to be smiling when I looked at him."
He said he went out to call his sister and an ambulance but when he returned with paramedics the baby was dead.
"The baby lay face up with the mouth wide open. Paramedics said he was dead," he told the court. He said the woman later disappeared after claiming to visit her sick mother.
The man told the court the woman later left him for another man. He said he pleaded with the other man to tell the woman to come home as he was struggling to look after their two children who were in Grades 1 and 2.
"He (the alleged rival) instead said he bewitched her with his private parts and that I would never see her again."
The woman allegedly returned to their home after he fetched her from her mother's house.
"The things I heard about her weighed heavily on my mind. I stabbed her in the neck behind her head and she fell to the ground. I then grabbed her genitals and sliced them off.
"We have been together for many years. We have been through a lot together and our children were still young. I was always there and raised them from birth. I had no one to talk to.
"I plead guilty. What I did was not good."
Judgment was reserved for next week.
