I didn't want to go home with Flabba that night: Sindisiwe Manqele

Murder accused Sindisiwe Manqele has revealed that she did not want to go home with his boyfriend Nkululeko 'Flabba' Habedi the night she stabbed him to death.

Manqele is standing trial at the High Court sitting in Randburg for stabbing the Skwatta Kamp member to death allegedly in self-defence.

In her testimony, Manqele revealed that Flabba got angry after seeing her and Masego (Nkululeko Chauke's girlfriend) talking to two guys at a party at The Sands in Sandton on the night.

The four of them consumed alcohol and Habedi and another friend smoked dagga‚ Manqele said.

She said Habedi and Chauke were sitting about eight metres away when she and Tsele were approached by two men.

“Two men spoke to us. They said we looked nice.

“[Habedi] and Chauke came over to us and asked the guys why they were talking to us because we were their chicks.

“The guy who was talking to me told [Habedi] to chill because we were still chatting‚” Manqele said.

She said Habedi got upset and told her that they should go.

Manqele said she refused to go with Habedi because she felt disrespected.

“He grabbed me by my wrist and told me I was disrespecting him in front of his friends and colleagues.”

She said they went outside and the argument continued.

“He said I was a gold-digger and I was fishing for other men.

“He said because he had financial problems I was looking for rich men. I told him that if I wanted a rich man I would not have dated him because there was no gold to dig.”

She told the court that Habedi grabbed her phone from her as she called her regular taxi driver to fetch her.

She said that they went outside, where the argument continued, then she began calling a metre taxi to come pick her up as she did not want to go home with a clearly furious Flabba.

Manqele showed the court screenshots of the phone calls she made on the night. She took the screenshots on March 17 when she got bail.

She also referred the court to three missed calls she received from the metre taxi driver - calls which she could not attend to as Flabba had taken her phone and they were enroute to his home.

As they were in the car, Manqele tried calling her cousin Thembelani three times - to ask him to pick her up at Flabba's home in Alexandra - but could not reach him.

She then called her other cousin Nomfundo but the call could not go through because of network issues.

She called again when she got to Alexandra but still could not get through to her cousins.

Judge Sithole said that the court should not waste time on calls history as they are not in dispute.

Manqele continues to testify.
