UKZN closed for two days as rioting turns violent

Students at the University of Kwaulu-Natal's Westville campus have stoned cars and set fire to buildings on campus‚ prompting the institution to announce it was halting lectures for today and tomorrow.

The protests‚ which began last night and continued today‚ are believed to be related to student fees.

Sharing a photo of a burnt out vehicle‚ KZN Commwatch @KZNCommwatch tweeted‚ “UKZN Protest Westville cars burnt offices looted property damaged. Campus is a hotspot of action”.

“Students run riot at University of KZN. Dbn Westville. Burning‚ stoning & destroying‚” Intelligence Bureau @IntelliBureau tweeted.

The university said its security staff and police were on the scene to bring the situation under control.
