North West police are investigating a policeman who has been linked to the kidnapping and robbery of a Rustenburg couple.

Sakhiwo Mfila, 29, and his wife Sindi, 31, were at a party at their neighbour's house in Bokamoso when four men and a woman - all armed and dressed in police uniforms and bulletproof vests - drove into the yard in an unmarked vehicle at about 11pm on Sunday.

They demanded to search the Mfilas' house. They produced identity cards and then searched the house.

They found cash which Sakhiwo, a property owner and landlord, had collected from his tenants.

The men took the money and threatened to arrest Sakhiwo. The couple were driven around Rustenburg in their bakkie until midnight.

Blindfolded and handcuffed, they were dumped in a bushy area near Letlhabile, Brits, around 2am.

Hartbeespoort Dam police spokesman Constable Japhta Lelaka confirmed that a case of robbery and hijacking had been opened in Brits.

Three months ago Sakhiwo opened a case against a member of the police's tactical response team, commonly known as Amaberete, after he and his brother were severely assaulted by the officer.

The case against the officer is currently in court.
