UPDATE: One believed dead in Clearwater Mall shooting

UPDATE: SAPS have arrested 2 suspects after a shootout at Clearwater Mall.

The South African Police Service tweeted that two suspects were killed, two were wounded and two other suspects were arrested. They also tweeted that four guns were seized.

Earlier reports indicated that at least one person had lost their life while four others were reported to have been injured during a shootout at Clearwater Mall.

Emergency services provider ?@ER24EMS tweeted that “reports show one dead‚ four injured” and that its paramedics “are on scene”.

 

Citizen reports on social media said the shooting occurred during a robbery at a cellphone shop‚ but Honeydew police spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs apparently reportedly the Roodepoort Northsider that “an armed robbery took place at the Standard Bank at the mall”.

Crime Stop’s Yusuf Abramjee tweeted that the shooutout was “between police and robbers” and also said it was at a “cellphone store”.

Others on Twitter reported that the mall was under “lockdown” after the shooting.

In another incident a security guard  tragically died in a shooting incident at a shopping mall in Kroonstad last night.

 Police are investigating.

Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found the man lying on the ground with a gunshot to the head. Paramedics worked fervently to stabilise the man  at the scene  before transporting him to a local hospital for the specialised care that he required.

Tragically, the man died soon after arriving at the hospital.
