Just over a year following Eddie Zondi's death, his mother has been left homeless after the bank repossessed the house he bought for her.
According to Sunday Sun, Thokozile Zondi was kicked out of her Naturena, South of Johannesburg house after failing to keep up with her bond repayments.
It is reported that the bank has repossessed and sold the house for R400 000 on Monday.
"Gogo Thoko has been staying at this house for such a long time and it’s sad that she had to leave the house for not paying the bond," said one of the neighbours who spoke to The People's Paper on condition of anonymity.
"Eddie bought her this house and he was paying the bond, but after he passed on, it became difficult for Gogo to pay as she’s a pensioner."
Zondi's mother was said to be living with her daughter, Eddie's sister, in the house.
"Her daughter works in a shop and she doesn’t earn much," said the source.
Another neighbour revealed that they have made alternative arrangements which will see Gogo Thokozile with a roof over her head.
"We spoke to the bank about the situation, and are still in talks. So we found her alternative accommodation as it wasn’t fair to let Gogo sleep on the streets,” another neighbour was quoted by the paper
The community has asked the SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng for assistance and he is willing to meet with the community leaders.
