A former police colonel from Gauteng appeared in the Bellville Magistrates Court today‚ on suspicion of allegedly stealing firearms and selling them to criminals in the Western Cape.
The 55-year-old former police officer‚ Christaan Prinsloo‚ was stationed in Gauteng as the commander of the Firearm Liquor and Second-Hand goods control unit (FLASH).
According to the investigating officers‚ the former Colonel was appearing on 28 charges which included Racketeering‚ murder‚ corruption and violation of Firearm Control Act‚ Fraud and Money Laundering‚ the SA Police Service said in a statement.
“Having received the information‚ the police management ordered an immediate investigation into these allegations which subsequently led to the arrest of the suspect by SAPS units which included the Crime Intelligence‚ Operation Combat who also worked closely with the Director of Public Prosecutions.
They recovered firearms‚ some of which had their serial numbers removed.
“Even though the suspect made his appearance today‚ further investigations will continue to establish other aspects and existing cases‚” the SAPS said.
Prinsloo has been granted bail of R20‚000. His next court appearance is in September.
