Golden handshake: Pay as they go

Advocacy group Freedom Under Law is preparing to launch a court challenge to the suspensions‚ inquiries and financial settlements of a line of officials at top government departments.

A rumoured golden handshake for Mxolisi Nxasana if he resigns as the national director of public prosecutions would be the latest resignation and lucrative payout for a public official.

It took an early-morning call from ‚ on President Jacob’s Zuma’s office and less than five minutes for the Cassim inquiry into Nxasana’s fitness to hold office to start and end.

Zuma had ordered the inquiry into Nxasana’s fitness to hold office 10 months ago after it was discovered that he (Nxasana) had been arrested 29 years ago for murder and assault.
