Probe into Jayde’s alleged killer’s parole violations

Questions have been asked about why the alleged gunman in Jayde Panayiotou’s murder did not have his parole withdrawn three months ago after his arrest for armed robbery.

This emerged as Luthando Siyoli‚ the bouncer who is said to have told police he was paid R30000 by Jayde husband’s Christopher to find someone to kill her‚ was making his second appearance in court on Thursday.

His case was postponed until June 19 when the two other suspects‚ Christopher Panayiotou‚ 28‚ and Sizwezakhe Vumazonke‚ 30‚ will also be back in court.

Vumazonke‚ the man suspected of pulling the trigger when the popular Nelson Mandela Bay teacher was killed‚ was out on the streets at the time despite having allegedly violated his parole conditions.

The National Prosecuting Authority‚ police and Correctional Services have launched an investigation into why he did not have his parole revoked three months ago after his arrest for an armed robbery that occurred in December.

Despite also having a previous conviction for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition‚ Vumazonke was granted bail at the time.

Officials also revealed that Vumazonke had previously been acquitted in a string of other cases‚ including hijacking and armed robbery.

In April‚ The Herald reported that one of the men suspected of murdering Jayde Panayiotou had been on the run for two months after the hijacking of a pregnant woman from the underground parking at the Greenacres shopping centre. It was reported at the time that this suspect was out on bail for a hijacking case in KwaNobuhle when the Greenacres incident occurred.

It could not be immediately confirmed if Vumazonke could be connected to these two crimes.

Siyoli‚ the first man to have been arrested and charged in the abduction and murder case‚ will be kept in custody and will be held and Humewood Police station in Port Elizabeth.
