The Pretoria High Court on Tuesday heard an urgent application for Stransham-Ford to be allowed to ask a doctor to help him die.
Stransham-Ford‚ who has terminal cancer‚ told the court that he wanted to die when he chooses to‚ with his family around him.
Pretoria High Court Judge Hans Fabricus ruled that Stransham-Ford was mentally competent and freely and voluntarily wanted assisted suicide.
The judge‚ in his groundbreaking judgment‚ found that a doctor who assisted in the euthanasia would not have his or her licence to practise removed by the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
