Cops bust own for stripping SAPS vehicles‚ selling parts

Fifteen SAPS employees will make their first appearance at various magistrates courts in the Eastern Cape province today (Wednesday) following their arrest by the Hawks on Tuesday.

The 15 employees‚ comprising of mechanics‚ artisans‚ cleaners and general workers‚ will face charges of corruption and theft after they were found to be stripping body parts from SAPS vehicles and selling them to members of the public.

“The suspects‚ aged between 33 and 52‚ would even sell brand new vehicle parts to pre-arranged buyers‚” police said in a statement.

Three of the suspects were arrested at Queenstown SAPS Garage; three were arrested at Forest Hill SAPS Garage; four were nabbed at Mthatha SAPS Garage‚ while five suspects were arrested at Bhisho SAPS Garage.

The suspects’ homes were searched and vehicle parts were found in the homes of ten suspects‚ police said.
