There was at least one fatality after two trains collided at Denver station on Johannesburg on Tuesday morning.

ER24 reported that one person had lost their life‚ while at least 80 injured people were being attended to on scene.

Details were sketchy at the time of publication‚ but it was reported on social media that one of the trains involved was a Business Express train travelling from Pretoria to Johannesburg.

Shaun Molokwane (‏@ShaunMMS) tweeted: “Johannesburg #TrainCrash: was in the Business Express train that crashed into the back of another at #Denverstation. Not hurt‚ thanks God”‚ while @MedixGauteng‚ who posted the first pictures from the scene of the accident which occurred just after 7am‚ posted: “Serious train crash at Denver train station. Fatalities”.

Rail commuters at Denver were reportedly seen seeking bus and taxi transport as the train collision is believed to have knocked out the power supply to the station.

Metrorail’s spokeswoman Lillian Mofokeng did not immediately return RDM News Wires’ calls for comment.
