DURBAN'S premier jazz event, the Durban Jazz Festival, has ditched the natural scenery of Hazelmere Dam for the white columns of Moses Mabhida Stadium.
The concert has been hosted at the picturesque venue for the past 12 years. According to organiser and founder Lindelani Mkhize, the move is due to the revamping of the dam.
Mkhize was confident that the stadium would give jazz lovers the same musical experience.
"Change is always good. I think people should look at it that way. The only difference is that there will not be a tree and a dam this time around," he said jokingly.
Mkhize said there would be plenty to entertain families and people should come in their numbers to experience the festival.
Durban Jazz Festival is a Boxing Day tradition in KwaZulu-Natal and attracts jazz lovers from around South Africa. This year's line-up includes Ringo Madlingozi, Thandiswa Mazwai, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Mafikizolo, Mi Casa, Zahara and Naima Kay.
Also billed to perform is Kelly Khumalo, who will be performing for the first time in Durban and at the venue of the funeral of her late boyfriend Senzo Meyiwa, which she did not attend.
The MCs for the event will be celebrity choreographer Somizi Mhlongo and Durban's own socialite Tha Simelane.
