Deputy Science and Technology Minister Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi, who is also National Freedom Party leader, is resting in a Durban hospital, the ministry said on Tuesday.
"She was admitted yesterday [Monday]," her spokesman Canaan Mdletshe said.
"She has been travelling all over the country. All the travelling has taken its toll on her and she needs to rest."
Asked about kaMagwaza-Msibi's condition, Mdletshe said: "She is fine, she is resting".
NFP secretary general Nhlanhla Khubisa said in an e-mail that Magwaza-Msibi's husband, Mandla Msibi, told him the NFP leader was in hospital for a routine check-up.
"The doctors have advised that she rests and after this thorough check-up she will go back to work."
