Slain footballer Senzo Meyiwa’s mother reportedly had to be hospitalised for a few hours after experiencing a rise in her blood sugar levels.

According KZN based isiZulu newspaper Isolelzwe, the distraught Ntombifuthi Meyiwa fell ill and was admitted in hospital for a check up before being discharged hours later.

The Bafana Bafana captain’s cousin Siyabonga Miya reportedly told the paper that the family is struggling to accept the sudden and painful death of their son and brother.

“It is difficult for the family to accept that our brother is no more,” he was quoted saying.

In Zulu Miya said his aunt (Senzo’s mom) feels it would have been better if it was her who had died instead of his son.

“Umama kade esho nje ukuthi ngabe kungcono ukube kuhambe yena kunoSenzo.”

According to Senzo’s family, the police say Senzo was shot by the robbers when they thought he was trying to fight them.

He apparently stood up in an approach that looked like he was ready to fight and that led to the robbers shooting him.

“Kuthiwa udubuleke kade esukuma ngenxa yokuthi izelelesi bezicabanga ukuthi ufuna ukulwa.”

Meyiwa who was popularly known as Nzori has left behind his three daughters and wife. His first child Namhla is from a previous relationship, his second child Nana, is from his marriage with Mandisa Mkhize and he also has baby Thingo with Kelly Khumalo.

A compensation of R250,000 has been offered for anyone who will help find the killers involved in Senzo’s shooting.
