The body of a Japanese tourist was found on Table Mountain, Cape Town, on Thursday, Western Cape emergency services said.

The 24-year-old man went missing in Platteklip Gorge on Wednesday night, spokesman Robert Daniels said. He had been hiking in the dark.

His death was believed to be an accident, Daniels said.

The man was found during a search and rescue mission around 9am on Thursday.
