Deputy SA Reserve Bank governor Lesetja Kganyago will succeed Gill Marcus as governor, President Jacob Zuma announced on Monday.

Kganyago's appointment was announced by President Jacob Zuma, flanked by Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene, at a media briefing at the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Monday.

He was one of two of Marcus's deputies, alongside Daniel Mminele.

Kganyago was expected to take over from Marcus next month. She would step down in November, at the end of her five-year term.

Kganyago would assume his duties on November 9.
