A year since Palesa Madiba's disappearance

Yesterday marked a year since Palesa Madiba strangely disappeared after spending a weekend at a friend’s home in Phiri, Soweto.

The 21 year old, University of Johannesburg student is still no where to be found.

Efforts by the Police as well as family and friends to find the young student are yet to yield any results.

12 August marks a painful and emotional day for the Madiba family, their frustration of not knowing the whereabouts of Palesa is clearly visible.

Her cousin Thabiso Tsoledi said it’s been a tough year for the family especially Madiba’s mom.

“She is not doing great at all, she hasn’t been herself since her daughter went missing. She has been in and out of hospital.”

Tsoledi said giving up the search is not an option, they need answers.

“We will not stop looking for her until we have some form of answer, whatever exposure we get to search for Palesa we will appreciate.

Tsoledi also added that the family finds it strange that her friend Tshidi Mkhwanazi, the last person to see Palesa has not attempted to reach out to the family or help search for her.

“She hasn’t said a word, we last spoke to her around this time and she has not come to ask if we're ok or if we have found her.”

However Mkhwanazi defended herself, stating it was difficult to reach out to the family as they were angry.

“I have not been to the family because they have something against me, it’s bad, because nothing could be said, I have been judged,” she said.

“I was hoping we could help one another find Palesa, she is my friend and I also want her back,” she added.

She said she was confused when the Madiba family blamed her for Palesa’s disappearance because she was a regular visitor at her home.

“I did not understand why they were acting strangely towards me. Palesa would come and visit me often, it’s a sad situation. I know it looks like I don’t care but I do, I also want Palesa back as much as they do.”

On the other had police say they are doing their best to try find her.
