A taxi’s driver’s random act of kindness has sparked a twitter campaign to get him his own vehicle.

It all began with a Facebook post by Malaika Mahlatsi who was so touched by the taxi driver’s actions that she decided to share it.

This is the story that has captured the hearts of many today:

“A young man has just gotten into the taxi and before even entering, he tells the driver that his fare is R2 short. The driver allows him to get in. While seated in the seat behind the driver, the young man thanks the driver. The driver asks him where he's going and he says he's going to his first ever job interview. He says he's been applying for a job since he graduated from VUT and only got called for an interview yesterday. The driver told him to not pay the taxi fare entirely because he won't have money to come back home. As we pay, the driver then gives this young man R10 and wishes him good luck for his job interview. He says to him: "Ungaphel'umoya, mfanakithi. Ungafani nalabafana basekasi ababem'inyaope." (Don't give up, brother, and don't become one of those young boys in the township who smoke nyaope).

I'm going to take this taxi's number plate when I get off and write a letter to the community paper about this. If any of you should get into it, know that you're being driven by a leader!”

Mahlatsi later posted a photo of the taxi’s registration with the caption: ‘The taxi of the leader!’

We shared Malaika’s post with our readers on Facebook and these were some of the responses:

Avril Evans: Thank you for sharing the good news. We should all aspire to be a little kinder to each other. As Bob Marley said "one love"

Jbl J'man Mbatha: "wow, if all south africans black and white were like this taxi driver this country would be a better place"

Vee-i Nkonde: Wow I'm really touched it's so nice to read about positive things for a change...not always reading about negative things....God bless that driver.

A campaign under the hashtag #TaxiDriver2TaxiOwner is now trending on Twitter with many hoping that it will lead to a generous donation/sponsorship for the kind-hearted taxi driver.

SowetanLive is currently trying to contact the Dorljota Taxi Association for help identifying the good Samaritan. We will keep you posted.
