The South African Rugby team (Springboks) made history when they defeated New Zealand at the Ellis Park Stadium on 24 June 1995.

The World Cup was the first major sporting event to take place in South Africa following the end of apartheid and also the first time the country was allowed to compete in it.

South Africa defeated New Zealand 15 – 12.
