Eddie Zondi memorial service underway

The memorial service of popular radio DJ Eddie Zondi is currently taking place at the Standard Bank arena in Johannesburg.

The service attended by many of Zondi’s fans as well as family members, friends and celebrities began at 11am today.

SABC CEO (acting) Tian Olivier described the fallen radio personality as ‘one of the greatest talents’ the country has ever had, adding that Zondi was a professional who took his craft seriously.

Gospel/Jazz singer Judith Sephuma paid tribute to the DJ with a rendition of Bette Midler's classic ‘The wind beneath my wings’.

Guests also took a trip down memory lane as tapes of the Radio legend chatting to callers were played.

With Nomathemba Madumo and Ernest Pillay as programme directors, the memorial service is set to continue till 3pm this afternoon.

Eddie Makhosonke Zondi died at the age of 47 on Monday after complaining of chest pains.

His funeral will take place on Sunday the 22nd June. The service will begin at UJ Soweto Campus from 8am after which the procession will leave for Avalon Cemetery.
