The City of Cape Town on Thursday condemned the stoning and burning of a MyCiTi bus in Montague Gardens.

The bus was attacked on Wednesday night, councillor Brett Herron said in a statement.

"The driver of the bus, as well as the eight passengers, had to abandon the bus and flee to safety. It is a miracle that they escaped unharmed.

A brick was thrown through the front window of the bus.

"The front door was damaged, and afterwards it was set alight," Herron said.

The city would use all resources at its disposal to bring the perpetrators to book.

Officials would be sent to monitor the area.
