Mandela 1994 posters for sale

The ANC has denied knowledge of a company selling its iconic 1994 election posters featuring former president Nelson Mandela, the Sunday Independent reported.

"We're not selling any Mandela item," African National Congress spokesman Keith Khoza was quoted as telling the newspaper.

However, Unwembi Communications director Tim Jenkin reportedly said his company had been selling the posters on the ANC's behalf "for years".

The posters were advertised on the ANC website, which Unwembi runs.

According to the newspaper, Jenkins said the sales were made on behalf of the ANC, although he was not completely sure if the proceeds of the sale went to the party.

Another ANC spokesman, Jackson Mthembu, reportedly told the newspaper the party would speak to the company to see what was going on.

"We're surprised as well," he was quoted as saying.

The posters cost between R250 to R700 depending on postage and packaging around the world.
