Twenty-nine people were killed when a bus collided with a truck in Moloto Road near Kwaggafontein on Monday night, the Mpumalanga safety department said.
Three died on arrival to KwaMhlanga hospital, said department spokesman Joseph Mbuza.
He had earlier reported that 26 people were killed on the scene and 11 others were critically injured.
The death toll was later updated to 29 when the three died in hospital.
There was a stationary bus on the road as a truck was approaching, said Mbuza
"The truck driver did not see the bus until it was too late. The truck driver swerved to the right to try and avoid the bus," he said.
As the truck swerved there was another bus approaching, and the two vehicles collided head on, Mbuza said.
