Traffic ground to a halt on the M1 South from the Buccleuch Interchange due to temporary flooding in the left lane in Houghton on Tuesday, said Johannesburg metro police.

Motorists from Pretoria were advised to use the Old Johannesburg Road or Louis Botha Avenue as alternative routes, said spokesman Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

He urged those already on the highway to exit via the Marlboro off-ramp, Grayston Drive off-ramp, Corlett Drive off-ramp, or the 11th Avenue off-ramp to avoid congestion.
