The search is on for the Nation’s Greatest

Johnnie Walker and Sunday Times are searching for individuals who Keep Walking towards making our nation great, whether it is through a single selfless act or a daily commitment to a chosen career or field to take home the title as the 'Nation's Greatest'.

The campaign aims to uncovers stories of  human endeavour and heroism that might not otherwise have made our pages - stories that will inspire our readers and make us proud to be South African.

The Sunday Times will be looking for nominations in seven categories, which are listed below. Any South African over the age of 18 will be able to take part in the nomination process.

1. The Nation’s Greatest Professional or Entrepreneur: Someone who has created a business or created a business opportunity, particularly against the odds – with an emphasis on sustainable job creation.

2. The Nation’s Great Mentor: A teacher or business person who, through their own leadership and dedication, has given of themselves to develop the progress of others.

3. The Nation’s Greatest Community Leader: Someone who is dedicating their life to the upliftment of their community, or in some way making a difference in the lives of others.

4. The Nation’s Greatest Inventor: Someone who – on their own and through their imagination and dedication to an idea - is innovating in design, craftsmanship, product development or IT.

5. The Nation’s Greatest Challenger: Someone who, probably through great personal sacrifice and against the odds, is achieving in their chosen sport or has achieved an exceptional physical test.

6. The Nation’s Greatest Hero: Someone who has performed a selfless act of heroism.

7. The Nation’s Greatest Individual Award: An exceptional individual who is an inspiration to all South Africans, but whose achievement/s fall outside the parameters of the other six categories.

The seven winners will be recognised at an event on October 7 2013, and in the Sunday Times on October 13 2013. The winners and their partners will also be guests of honour at the Sunday Times Top 100 Companies Awards dinner on October 30 2013.

Nominations for the inaugural Johnnie Walker Sunday Times Nation’s Greatest Awards is open to the public on www.nationsgreatest.co.za.

Simply log on to the website and nominate your greatest achievers across seven categories from entrepreneurs to inventors, mentors and hero’s. Finalists in each category will be announced on 25 August and, following the judging process, the overall category winners will be announced in October 2013.
