Twenty-seven people were injured when two taxis collided on the R59 just after the Kliprivier turn off in Alberton on Friday, paramedics said.
"Paramedics and the emergency services arrived at the scene and found the crumpled remains of the vehicles and accident debris littering the roadway," Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said.
The injured were taken to various hospitals in the area.
