Three held for fuel theft in Eastern Cape

Three men have been arrested for allegedly stealing fuel in Siyathemba village, near Berlin, Eastern Cape police said on Sunday.

Police, acting on a tip-off about men draining fuel from a depot, went to the area and arrested them on Friday morning, Captain Mluleki Mbi said.

The men, aged between 27 and 35, tried to run away, but were caught.

"About 800 litres of fuel which was in drums was confiscated and a Mercedes Benz Sprinter which loaded these containers was also confiscated," said Mbi.

They would appear in the King William's Town Magistrate's Court on Monday facing charges of theft and possession of suspected stolen property.
