Teen in coma after assault

Be careful where you go clubbing

A Cape Town teenager is in a coma after he and his friends were apparently attacked while heading to a club, it was reported on Monday.

The Cape Times reported that Jean Lambrechts, 19, was on his way to Stones Edward Street, Bellville, on Saturday evening when his group were approached by about 10 men.

His friend Juan Strydom, 20, said the unknown men began hitting them as security guards at the nearby club apparently looked on.

Henrieta Sauer said she was told her son, Lambrechts, was hit in the jaw, fell onto the pavement and then had his head kicked.

He was meant to have started an IT course on Monday.

Police spokesman Andre Traut told the newspaper a case of assault with intent to commit grievous bodily harm was being investigated.

No arrests had yet been made.

In November 2011, matric pupil Corne Hale, 19, died in the same street after being involved in a fight.
