Robber targets Mzoli’s in Gugulethu, Cape Town
An ATM was blown up outside popular braai spot Mzoli’s in Gugulethu, Cape Town, it was reported on Thursday.
The Cape Times reported that police officers heard the bombing around 2.25am on Wednesday and went to investigate.
“They saw an unknown armed male suspect who fired at them with an automatic rifle. The members returned fire, but the suspect managed to escape the scene,” said police spokesman Frederick van Wyk.
The cash machine is the first to be targeted this year, following a spate of 21 bombings in the province last year.
No casualties were reported, no arrests were made and it was unclear whether any money was taken.
