Accused of showing Soweto school pupils - aged 13 and 14 - a sex video, and sexually assaulting the younger child

A SOWETO primary school teacher appeared in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Friday on charges of sexual assault.

The State alleges that in November Zwelile Ngxanga showed two Grade 7 pupils - aged 13 and 14 - a video of a police officer and a prison warder having sex at Leratong Hospital on the West Rand in 2011.

Ngxanga is also accused of sexually assaulting the 13-year-old.

Education department spokesman Charles Phahlane at the time said the teacher had been placed on precautionary suspension and was facing an internal disciplinary hearing.

Ngxanga's bail of R2,000 was extended and the case was postponed to next month.
