Pastor up for rape of girl (12)

A SOWETO pastor will appear in court tomorrow to face a charge of rape and two counts of sexual assault involving minors

The pastor, who cannot be named until he appears in court, will appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court.

Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said the 62-year-old priest had allegedly been abusing the girls aged between 12 and 15 for months.

The 12-year-old was allegedly raped and the other two fondled by the man.

"At his house there is a spaza and when the girls came to buy, that is when he got the chance to abuse them," Makhubela said.

"He allegedly raped the 12-year-old at the weekend and gave her money to keep quiet but she told her parents.

"After the family reported the matter, the other parents also came forward and said their children were assaulted by the man."

The priest and his wife also run a youth club and a community builder organisation.

One of their neighbours said: "They donate vegetables and food to families that are poor. With the youth club, they teach the children to dance and sing."
