A 25-year-old man who posed as an advocate and swindled Soweto residents out of thousands of rands, has been arrested by police

Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said the man took money from people in Dobsonville, promising them houses in return.

“He even went on the local radio station and advertised his services...,” said Makhubela.

“We found that he is not even a real advocate, meaning he would make people sign fake documents.”

Around 20 people had opened cases against him at the Dobsonville police station and it was possible more would come forward.

Makhubela said the man had been arrested for theft under false pretences and forgery, and would appear soon in the Protea Magistrate’s Court.
