Vavi and his wife expecting twins

Zwelinzima and Noluthando already have five children between them. The twins are their first as a couple

COSATU general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi and his wife Noluthando are expecting twins.

A source close to the Vavis confirmed to Sowetan that Noluthando is expecting a girl and a boy.

"The couple is excited about the pregnancy and their other children from previous relationships are getting impatient about the twins' arrival," the source said.

Vavi and Noluthando already have five children between them and the twins are their first as a couple.

Noluthando declined to comment on her pregnancy and to reveal how far she was into the pregnancy.

She said: "This is a private matter between my husband and family."

Vavi, sounding annoyed, demanded to know where Sowetan got wind of the twins story.

"Who told you that?" Vavi asked.

"Go back to your source," he barked.

The heavily pregnant Noluthando said yesterday that this year had been a good one for the family.

"God has blessed our family in more ways than one and all we can do is to be grateful," she said.

The couple got hitched in 2007 after Vavi had divorced his first wife, Nikiwe, while Noluthando was rumoured to have divorced her former husband, Bheki Ngema, to be with Vavi.

Both their lives have been marred with misfortunes when Vavi was wrongfully accused of corruption and Noluthando was implicated in a conflict of interest squabble with SA Quantum. Vavi stood by her.

Noluthando is the managing director of diversified company Zwelothando Minerals & Resources.
