A Soweto school principal lost a box of 20 Matric science exam papers when he forgot them on the roof of his car

“When loading his car [on Thursday], he appears to have put the box with exam papers on the roof of the vehicle.

“He drove off forgetting to put the box inside the vehicle,” the department said in a statement.

The man who made the blunder was headmaster of the Phefeni Senior Secondary School in Orlando West. He was also the chief invigilator and tasked with picking up the exams at the local collection point.

An extra box of exam papers was sent to the school. All pupils completed the exam.

Answer papers submitted by pupils at four schools in the area would be scrutinised to determine if they had prior knowledge of the exam’s content.

The principal, who was not named, was suspended from his exam duties pending an investigation.
