A CACHE of firearms and explosives was found buried on a farm near Rustenburg, North West police said.
"[A] farm worker discovered abandoned explosives and firearms on Sunday while bulldozing a field to get rid of blue gum trees," police spokeswoman Captain Adele Myburgh said.
The worker alerted the farmer who called the police. The farm is situated in the town of Boons, about 45km south of Rustenburg.
Pistols, hand grenades, explosives and ammunition were found wrapped in plastic, tin foil and tape.
"Some of the items were very rusty and it is suspected that they might have been buried there for more than 10 years. The items originate from the old Eastern bloc countries."
A limpet mine was discovered when the area was searched with a metal detector. The items were taken for ballistic testing. No arrests had been made.
