THE community members of Hammanskraal, North West, yesterday stoned an alleged notorious thief to death after he had apparently stolen a pair of music speakers.
Police said the man was spotted by one of the residents jumping out of a window of a house in Section C earlier. The neighbour blew a whistle and the community pounced on him.
Police spokesman Warrant Officer Lolo Mangena said the man was previously accused of a string of theft cases in the area, including cable theft.
"The community was complaining that the man had been arrested several times, but he always came back (on bail) and committed more crimes."
Mangena said the angry residents had even tried to set the man alight. No one was arrested.
