A second man was injured

A man was killed and another was injured in mob violence in Mankweng at the weekend, Limpopo police said

Both were accused of attempted rape before being attacked on Sunday, said Constable Moses Molepo.

A 23-year-old man was the first to be attacked, at 1.30am, after he was accused of attempting to rape a 20-year-old girl.

The community of Ga Mmamabolo stoned him. He was taken to Mankweng hospital.

In the second stoning, in Ga Mothiba, at 6.50am, a 32-year-old man died.

The man, identified as Collen Mboweni, was accused of attempting to rape a 23-year-old woman.

The suspect allegedly broke a window to gain entry to the 23-year-old woman’s house. He allegedly attempted to rape her, Molepo said.

The woman used a whistle to call for help from her neighbours, who apparently attacked Mboweni with a variety of weapons.

Molepo said Mboweni had two court cases pending against him — one for rape and another for house-breaking with intent to steal.
