A family of four was killed by a lightning strike in the Mama Lala area of Sweetwaters, Pietermaritzburg, on Tuesday afternoon, paramedics said.
Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said the mother and father had been carrying their children across a field during a storm.
“Paramedics... arrived at the scene and found that a mother, father, a six-month-old girl, and a boy aged three, had sustained severe burns from the lightning strike.”
They died on the scene.
