Kaizer Chiefs boss forced to tell court what his assets are worth - and it's a lot!
The Nelspruit Magistrate's Court on Thursday released Kaizer Chiefs manager Bobby Motaung on R50,000 baill, Eyewitness News reports.
He is one of three people arrested in connection with multi-million rand fraud involving the construction of the Mbombela Stadium.
Motaung and co-accused Herbert Theledi appeared in court together, while Chris Grib was reportedly arrested in Cape Town.
In court on Thursday, Motaung revealed his assets were worth R12 million and his car was worth a further R4 million.
It also emerged that the manager earned around R100,000 a month.
State prosecutors did not oppose bail and he was not asked to report to a police station or hand in his passport.
SABC radio news reports that Motaung's co-accused Herbert Theledi was also granted bail of R50,000.
The case was postponed to October 15, according to a comment posted on the social networking site Twitter by Hawks spokesman McIntosh Polela.
More than 100 people protested outside the court on Thursday, holding up posters reading: “Who killed Jimmy”, “What happened to Jimmy” and “Stop Corruption”.
Mbombela municipality speaker Jimmy Mohlala was shot dead in January 2009 after blowing the whistle on companies and individuals he claimed were involved in tender corruption.
Some protesters wore T-shirts bearing his image, while others wore African National Congress and SA Communist Party T-shirts.
