Limpopo ANCYL call for Mabe address boycott

ANC Youth League treasurer-general Pule Mabe could address an empty stadium in Limpopo tomorrow should the organisation's members heed a call by the provincial leadership to boycott the event.

Mabe, who is seen to be lobbying support to replace expelled ANCYL leader Julius Malema, is scheduled to address the "Defend the ANCYL" rally at Nkowa Nkowa Stadium.

But it seems Mabe is unwanted in his home province. Two influential provincial ANCYL leaders have expressed their disapproval of "Mabe's ambitions" and have allegedly labelled him a "sellout".

ANCYL provincial secretary and Malema ally, Jacob Lebogo, said: "Pule Mabe is no longer a leader of the ANCYL after he was expelled by the league's NEC (national executive committee). We call upon members of the league not to attend any rally addressed by Mabe."

Boy Mamabolo, a friend-turned-foe of Malema, said: "We condemn Mabe's opportunistic tendencies of projecting himself as an available leader of the league while there is little or no support for him in the province."

Lebogo and Mamabolo appear to be singing from the same hymn book about Mabe although the two are known to be sworn enemies.

Mabe refused to comment.

Thabo Kgapane, one of the organisers, said Mabe did not need permission to address rallies in the province because the ANC and league were "failing to defend the revolution".
