FREE State police have arrested 150 people in Botshabelo after the community ran amok, attacking foreigners. The suspects were arrested at the weekend after they burned and looted foreign-owned shops.

Police spokeswoman Constable Consolation Mokoale said yesterday the township remained calm.

Residents were allegedly angered by the Mangaung municipality's decision to remove makeshift stalls owned by locals from a local shopping centre.

The municipality destroyed and removed their makeshift shops after the locals had occupied the business premises illegally.

Residents vented their anger on foreigners who owned shops and supermarkets in the township. Two people were also shot and injured in separate incidents.
