Police re-opened Lower Boksburg road, between Germiston and Boksburg, this morning, about two hours after it was blockaded by protesters, the Ekurhuleni metro police said.
“Traffic was affected when residents from the Goodhope informal settlement blockaded the road at about 6am this morning. They were not using rocks or burning tyres,” spokesman Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago said.
“We moved the 200 to 300 people to an open veld where they are preparing to march to the civic centre at 9am to hand over a memorandum. The police will make sure they have a safe path as they march.”
Kgasago said the residents would move south along Lower Boksburg road towards Germiston to get to the civic centre.
