An ambulance belonging to the City of Tshwane municipality was hijacked in Pretoria West, Gauteng police said.

Two ambulance assistants were hijacked at gunpoint by two unidentified men at the corner of DF Malan Road and Soutter Street on Tuesday night, said police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Wanda Olivier.

"They were forced out of a white Toyota Quantum at gunpoint and the hijackers drove off with the vehicle," she said.

Olivier said nobody was injured during the hijacking and the assistants immediately reported the case.

"We are investigating a case of hijacking and ask the community to help with information," said Olivier.

The ambulance was branded "Integrated community development" on both front doors.

Information on its whereabouts can be sent to sms 32211, or contact Sergeant Janie Swart on 079-895-0667.
