Nzimande admitted to hospital

Higher Education Minister suffering from flu, advised to rest. Winnie Madikizela-Mandela is 'doing well in hospital' where she is being treated for a broken wrist

Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande has been admitted to hospital, SABC news reports.

Spokeswoman Vuyelwa Qinga told the public broadcaster that Nzimande was suffering from flu.

She said he would be discharged later today.

Doctors reportedly advised him to rest before returning to work.

Meanwhile, ANC stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela is “doing well” and is still recovering in hospital after breaking her wrist last week, the ANC Women’s League says.

“The... league is pleased to report that Comrade Winnie Mandela is doing well in hospital and her condition is much improved,” spokeswoman Troy Martens said in a statement.   “She has never stopped to take a break from the hard work she does and has done throughout her life. We hope she will be back to good health in no time at all and ready to continue with her valuable contribution to the organisation and the country as a whole.”

Madikizela-Mandela was taken to hospital after breaking her wrist, her daughter Zindzi Mandela said on Saturday night.

She fell on Thursday.

The name of the hospital was not disclosed, and her daughter asked for the family’s privacy to be respected.
