A newborn baby boy is fighting for his life in the Pelonomi State Hospital after being abandoned in a field in Heidedal, Bloemfontein
The child was found early this morning.
Netcare911 Paramedics were called to the scene after a passerby noticed the child crying.
They arrived to find the boy in a critical condition, "in a hypothermic state having been exposed to the elements for a long period", Netcare said in a statement.
"Paramedics immediately initiated care and attempted to warm the child, rushing him to hospital. There the boy remains in a critical condition."
